Monmouth College Graduate Reflects on Start of Pandemic Overseas

Monmouth Native and Monmouth College Class of 2020 Will Best was a part of the College’s Spring Break Chorale Trip to Austria and the Czech Republic, the same time the coronavirus outbreak was hitting the US in March. Best shares up until the fifth day of the trip was wonderful:

“About the fifth day we were there, was when everything started to happen. Austria started limiting large gatherings so many of our concerts started to kind of come into question whether they would happen or not. Right before Austria cancelled all major concerts and productions, we held a concert with maybe like fifteen to twenty some people in the audience. Then right near the end of our trip we got to go to Prague in the Czech Republic and that was when everything was cancelled. So we were really kind of relegated to our hotel. We got like one walking tour of Prague and that was really kind of it. Nevertheless it was still a fantastic trip, just kind of a bit soured a little bit because we couldn’t really do much at the end,” Best says.

Best stated that getting home was quite the experience and once they arrived back in the states they quarantined for two weeks at home.
