Rev. Dennis J. McQuown, 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior, at 7:25 am Tuesday August 4, 2020 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Dennis was born July 26, 1952 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania the son of Jay S. and Juelda Mae (Noerr) McQuown. He married Pamela Sue Ruppert on July 13, 1974 in Franklin, Ohio.

Dennis is survived by the love of his life of 46 years, Sue of Galesburg; his son, Jay “Shawn” McQuown of Davenport, Iowa and his daughter, Shannon (Jen) Bays of Boston, Massachusetts; his two sisters, Brenda (Bill) Race of Orlando, Florida and Cinda (Rich) Teper of Lisbon, Connecticut and his fur companion, Buddy the dog. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sharon Jackson.

Dennis was a man of God and served his Lord. He received his degree in theology from Warner Southern in Lake Wales, Florida in 1975. Dennis served as the minister for the First Church of God, Galesburg for a time of 20 years. He had also served the First Church of God in Ashland, Kentucky as well as many other congregations. He was a gentle man with a cheesy sense of humor. He had a love for preaching and he did it well. Dennis enjoyed visiting and praying with his parishioners while they were in the hospital. He would usually mention, he liked to visit the hospitals and encouraging others as long as he wasn’t the one staying. In his free time Dennis could be found quietly fishing. He will be missed by many friends of the community.

A Celebration of Rev. Dennis McQuown’s life is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, August 9, 2020 at the First Church of God, 1080 Harrison Street, Galesburg with Rev. Eric Livingston officiating. A Memorial Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 pm Sunday at the church. Cremation will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of God. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing, limited seating, and facemasks will be required.  Services will be livestreamed via Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Facebook page.
