Barbara M. Bloomgren, 97, of Galesburg, died at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2020, in WoodRidge Supportive Living Center, where she had lived for the past eight years.

She was born July 19, 1923, in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of James W. and Kathryn (Muilenburg) Jones.  She married Hugo H. Bloomgren on February 18, 1947, in Peoria.  He preceded her in death December 13, 1999.

She is survived by a son, Harry E. (Alice) Bloomgren of Galesburg; a daughter, Sharon (Bruce) Courtright of Oneida; four grandchildren, Sandy (Jeff) Pemberton of Knoxville, Mat (Marye) Bloomgren of Galesburg, Chris (Amy) Courtright of Oneida, and Andrew (Rebecca) Courtright of Davenport, Iowa; six great grandchildren, Taylor (Robert Fox) Bloomgren, Allison Pemberton, Samuel Pemberton, Madison Bloomgren, Addison Courtright, and Sophia Courtright; a sister, Darlene McMillen of Carthage, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steven Bloomgren; five brothers; and two sisters.

Barbara was a dedicated farm wife and homemaker.  She also had worked at Carl Sandburg College, Knox College, Gale Products, Montgomery Wards, and Marigold Health Care Center.  She had been a volunteer with St. Mary Medical Center.  Barbara will be remembered for her hospitality and joyful spirit and always made friends easily.  She was also an excellent cook, known especially for her chicken and noodles and homemade desserts and breads.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2020, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the chapel with Rev. Tim Anderson officiating.  Burial will be in Warren County Hope Cemetery.  Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited seating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
