Monmouth Fire Chief Rexroat Advises the Use of Battery Candles to Light up Jack-O-Lanterns

As fall is here and Halloween is this week, jack-o-lanterns are being carved more. Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat shares it is best to use a batter operated candle to light up the pumpkin and not an open flame:

“Something big I would recommend is with the jack-o-lanterns, instead of using a candle in there maybe throw a glow stick in there or they have those battery operated little candles now that you can use to help light up the jack-o-lantern. We are always worried about number one kids trying to light that little candle down in the bottom of the jack-o-lantern and burn themselves or the possibility of something catching on fire with that open flame in there. Try to use something battery operated or like I said you can set a glow stick in there,” Chief Rexroat reports.

Chief Rexroat also states that when kids go out Trick-or-Treating have them take a flashlight or glow stick so they can see where they are going and others can see them.
