Richard L. Brown, age 85, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 1:10 am
on October 19, 2020 at the Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois.
Richard was born on September 6, 1935 in Colchester, Illinois and is the
son of Herbert Mckinley and Phoebe Jane Phillips Brown. Richard
attended schools in Colchester and graduated from the Colchester High
School with the class of 1953. He then attended two years of college in
Industry Arts and Physical Education. Richard then nobly served his
country as a PFC E-3 in the United States Army serving during the Korean
War. Richard was first married to Norma J. Chenoweth for ten years and
she passed away in 2012. His very special friend, Helen Wells and he
were together for the next twenty years until her death. Richard has
been self employed in Construction and operated the Brown Construction
company locally for fifty years. Richard loved to umpire Little League
and High School baseball for a number of years. He also loved to
assemble stained glass and do woodworking He also had a passion for
Model Trains and just like to build things.
Surviving him is one son, Rick Brown and Kim of Abingdon, Illinois and
three grandsons, Cody Brown and Brittany, Ellis Walpole, and Timothy
Walpole, all of Abingdon, Illinois. One great granddaughter survives,
Ryleigh Brown of Abingdon, and his brother, Charlie Brown and Kathy of
Bartonville, Illinois. Richard is preceded in his death by his parents,
two brothers, and four sisters.
A graveside funeral service with Military Honors for the interment of
his ashes, is planned on Saturday October 24, 2020 at 11:00 am at the
Veterans Lot of Monmouth Cemetery. Friends may call and pay their
respects to Richard on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 prior to
the graveside funeral. Memorials may be left as a fund is being
