Robert E. “Bob” Ballew, 77, of Galesburg, Illinois died 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.
He was born January 30, 1943 in Monmouth, Illinois to Lewis H. and Dorothy L. (Root) Ballew. He married Nancy I Bain, September 11, 1971 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James L. (and Bethany) Ballew of Joliet, Illinois and Terry D. (and Linda) Ballew of Marshal, Texas, six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, and two step great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James L. Ballew in 2013.
Bob graduated from Galesburg High School in 1961. When he was younger, he worked for a few places in Galesburg such as Blacks Hardware Store, Gates Rubber Company, and Randall Bus Service. He then attended diesel mechanics school in Chicago Illinois. He was a mechanic at Alexis Ford for 20 years. He then taught diesel mechanic’s at Henry C. Hill for 20 years. He was an EMT for Alexis/ North Henderson Ambulance for almost 30 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Galesburg. He was volunteer for Choral Dynamics in Galesburg.
Cremation will be accorded as Bob requested. Due to the restrictions associated with the pandemic COVID-19 a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
