Galesburg Parks and Recreation Limited Services Resuming Under Tier 1 Mitigations

As Region 2 moves from Tier 2 Mitigation to Tier 1 Mitigation, Galesburg Parks & Recreation Department will resume limited services at the following facilities: Hawthorne Gym, Hawthorne Pool, Lake Storey Pavilion, Lakeside Nature Center, and Lakeside Recreation Facility. Program-specific plans will be updated and made available to the general public later this week. At all locations, masks, temperature checks, COVID waivers and screenings will continue to be required. Disinfection will be done regularly and reduced capacity will be enforced. 

Location Specific Updates

Hawthorne Gym

Beginning January 19, 2021, rentals will resume at Hawthorne Gym. Any sports may have inter-team scrimmages at this time. Any competitive play must be approved by the office a minimum of two business days ahead of time. All users must agree to follow current sport-specific guidelines. The facility’s capacity is 50 people. Multiple groups of 50 may be cycled through in one rental, but must have 30 minutes for disinfection between groups and have prior office approval.

Hawthorne Pool

Beginning January 19, 2021, lap swim will switch to “open lane swim” with a lane capacity of up to 10 people per lane. Reservations will continue through Sign Up Genius. Beginning February 1, 2021, Hawthorne pool will resume programming, including swim lessons, as it was under phase 4. Aqua Fitness classes and pool rentals (with no Wibit) will resume beginning February 1, 2021. 

Lake Storey Pavilion 

Beginning January 19, 2021, Lake Storey Pavilion will resume limited operation. For social events and general rentals, there is a capacity of 25 people. For recreational programming, there is a capacity of 50 people. Multiple groups may be cycled through the Pavilion in one rental or day, but must have a 30 minute disinfection period and be pre-approved. Based on previous guidelines no food/drink service and no dancing are allowed at this time. 

Lakeside Nature Center

Beginning January 19, 2021, the Lakeside Nature Center will be able to accommodate one household group at a time. Primarily outdoor programming will continue. 

Lakeside Recreation Facility

Beginning January 19, 2021, the following services will resume: doubles tennis, singles tennis, and pickleball. Beginning February 1, 2021 (or earlier if the batting cage installation is complete), reservations for the multipurpose court will resume. Any sports may have inter-team scrimmages at this time. Any competitive play must be approved by the office a minimum of two business days ahead of time. All users agree to follow current sport-specific guidelines. Limited indoor walking times will continue to be offered. The tennis ball machine will continue to be offered. The facility capacity is capped at 50%. We will limit to 50 people per multipurpose court and 25 people per tennis court.
