Wyona (Haptonstall) Iles, 94, of Victoria, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, 1:42 AM at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Wyona was born on June 26, 1926 to Sadie (Rice) and Maurice Clinton Haptonstall in Lafayette, Illinois. She married Bert L. Iles on April 10, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. They began their married life together in Victoria. Then they started raising their children in Dahinda, Illinois, later moving to Altona on a small four-acre farm. In 1958, Wyona and her family moved to Toulon due to a transfer with Bert’s coal mining work. Wyona continued to live in Toulon for 54 years, until November of 2012, when she moved to Oak Run, Dahinda, IL with her daughter, Priscilla.

Wyona was a 1943 graduate of Victoria Community High School. She was a member of the Victoria United Methodist Church. While Wyona kept busy raising seven children, she also enjoyed working in the family garden each year and canning vegetables. She also loved to sew and cook. Summer was her favorite time of year and would love to take her family vacationing at her brother and sister-in-law’s resort in Park Rapids, Minnesota.

Surviving Wyona are her children, Ginger (Dave) Talbert, Priscilla Muckey, James (Barbara) Iles, Melody (Larry) Bennett, Patricia (Don) Colgan, and Penny (Wade) Bennett; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Bert; a son, Richard Iles; grandson, Chad Colgan; brother, Maurice Haptonstall; and a sister, Naomi Eldert.

Cremation rites will be accorded. No services are planned at this time. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville has been entrusted with arrangements.
