Carolyn E.Simpson, 94, a resident of Legacy Estates of Monmouth, died at
4:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in
Galesburg.
She was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Stronghurst, the daughter of Sarah Jane
White and Walter Amil Hendrickson. She graduated from Biggsville High
School.
She married Duane “Dewey” Simpson on May 22, 1947, at Biggsville
Methodist Parsonage. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 2004.
She worked at Monmouth Nursing Home, Sears catalog store, Montgomery
Ward catalog store, Western Illinois Home Health Care, and Bowman’s shoe
store, all in Monmouth.
She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church of Monmouth, where
she served as deacon and elder, Presbyterian Women’s Association, Church
Women United, and Community Medical Center Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Simpson, of Monmouth; two sons, Dennis
Simpson (and friend Ben Logronio) of Tucson, Arizona, and Junior
(Marcella) Simpson of Monmouth; six grandchildren, Chad Simpson (Jane
Carlson) of Monmouth; Brent Simpson of Monmouth; Heather (Chico)
Hernandez of Stronghurst; and Mandy (Ronnie) Davis, Jessica (Rob)
Angelo, and Molly Simpson, all of Monmouth.
She was preceded in death by a son, Walter “Wally” Simpson; a daughter,
Connie Louck; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Simpson; a sister, Betty McGee;
and a brother, Charlie Hendrickson.
Also surviving are great-grandchildren Brittani Olson, Sincora
Hernandez, Thomas Simpson, Marcus Malcolm, Veronica Davis, Aden Davis,
Ethan Davis, Landyn Angelo, Kelsie Gyroy, and Kirstin Angelo; and
great-great grandchildren Braelynn Olson, Jennings Fink, and Aubrey
Hopkins. Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of her care.
Cremation has bee n accorded. A Memorial Service is planned on June 12,
2021 at 10:00 at Faith United Presbyterian Church. An family interment
of her ashes will be prior to the memorial service at Warren County
Memorial Park Cemetery.Her family plans to receive friends following the
service in the Social Hall of the church. Memorials may be made to Faith
United Presbyterian Church of Monmouth.
