You may have noticed that you’ve been receiving many fraudulent texts or emails recently. Dorothy Ricketts, the vice president of Security Savings Bank, reassures that you can keep your identity safe as long as you exercise caution:
“The [scammers’] goal is to get you to click on a link and fill in personal information. [The official] places will not contact you by text to get information. Most of the government requests for information will come by paper, or you may get an email about it. Even if you get an email and you’re expecting it, I would recommend you go back to that website and complete your sign-in. If you’re not comfortable doing it by email, you can contact by phone and ask for it be completed by mail.”
