Kenneth L. “Ken” Leath, age 62, of Oquawka, Illinois, slipped into the
arms of his Heavenly Father, surrounded by his family, at 4:36 PM on
Tuesday, June 1, 2021. He was born August 15, 1958 in Monmouth,
Illinois, the son of James E. and Edna M. (Trout) Leath. Ken graduated
from Warren High School with the Class of 1976. He proudly served his
Country as a Helicopter Turbine Engine Mechanic with the United States
Army. On August 20, 1994, Ken married Lisa D. Law in Cameron, Illinois
and she is surviving. Ken was a tool and die maker, working for Maytag
Corporation in Galesburg and lastly at the Rock Island Arsenal. He loved
kayaking, hiking, camping, bird watching, and fishing. He was a reader
of sci-fi books and enjoyed writing poetry. Mostly, Ken loved his family
and grandchildren. Throughout his illness, Ken kept his wonderful sense
of humor.
Ken is survived by his parents James and Edna Leath of Cameron,
Illinois, his wife Lisa of Oquawka, Illinois, one daughter, Racheal
(Glenn) McClanahan of Monmouth, Illinois, two sons, Ryan (Madeline)
Leath of Oquawka, Illinois and Ian Nelson of Monmouth, Illinois. two
sisters, Donna (Kevin) Lovdahl of Monmouth, Illinois and Deborah (Gary)
Anderson of Galesburg, Illinois, and three brothers, James Leath of
Bellevue, Nebraska, Tom (Sherri) Leath of Roseville, Illinois, and
Daniel (Rachel) Leath of Holt, Missouri. Also surviving are
grandchildren Mathias McClanahan, Judah Leath, and one grandchild not
yet born. He is preceded in death by his grandparents.
As were Ken’s wishes, cremation is being accorded. A graveside committal
will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Silent Home
Cemetery in Cameron, Illinois. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be
from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, June 7, 2021 at Turnbull Funeral Home in
Monmouth, Illinois. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be left for St.
Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, masks
