Rick Brown passed away Sunday, June 6th in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family whom he loved beyond words. He remained an optimistic fighter until the end, and spent his last days trying to make life better and easier for others.
He is survived by his high-school sweetheart and love of his life, Marcia, their sons Nathan and Amy Brown (Bloomington, IL), and Justin and Cara Brown (Oswego, IL) and grandchildren Jett and Kenley. He also leaves behind his mother, Norma Brown, brothers and sister, and extended family, all of whom will miss his joke-telling, love of the Chicago Cubs and his Swedish ancestry, enthusiasm for Perkins pies and most any dessert, and his commitment to diligent insurance, farm work, and family.
Rick was a generous member of the Rotary for many years and of the Knoxville, Williamsfield, Oneida and Galesburg communities where he started as a teacher and eventually led him down the path of starting Rick Brown Insurance while embracing his surroundings, always ready with warm greetings, helping hands and storytelling to bring people together. He will be missed by everyone he met and will hold a place close in his family’s hearts forever.
Memorial service will be held at Noon, Saturday, June 12th at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 N. Prairie Street, Galesburg, IL. A Celebration of life will follow the services from 12:30 – 2:00 PM at the Fellowship Hall of the church.
