With Pool Season Comes Water Safety

Share

Pools are now open for the summer, both those in the back yard and municipal ones. That increases the risk of drowning, and its not always obvious when a swimmer might be in trouble. Dr. Careyana (Carrie-Anne) Breaham says don’t take your eyes off of younger swimmers in the pool.

“Children can slip under the water so quickly. People expect kids or others that are going to drown that they are splashing, screaming and everybody will notice, but in fact, young kids in particular will just slip quietly under the water so it is really important for adults and others to keep an eye on kids. It only takes a couple of seconds to answer a phone or run to the restrooms and not have an eye on a little one and something happens.”

Breaham says it’s a great idea to take a CPR and first aid course if you have a pool.
