Scott Paul Van Velsor, 52, of Dahinda, died at 10:16 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.
Scott was born May 17, 1969 in Galesburg, the son of Larry Eugene and Katherine Joyce (Callahan) Van Velsor. He married Christine (Trulson) Van Velsor in Galesburg, IL on July 16, 1987. He is survived by his wife, Christine; his parents Larry and Katherine Van Velsor of Galesburg; one son, Jacob (Taylor Sprenger) Van Velsor of Galesburg; two daughters, Jessica Van Velsor and Katie (‘Sir’ Nick) Wolf, both of Galesburg; and one brother, Todd (Gwen) Van Velsor of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Scott worked as an instructor for BNSF for 19 years until June of 2017 due to ALS. He also served in the US Navy from 1986 to 2012 and was a chief petty officer. He was a member of the American Legion, Corpus Christi Catholic Church since 2017, was a past board member of Camp Kidz, and a Patriot Guard rider. He also coached JFL Streaks for 8 years in Galesburg. Scott enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, smoking cigars, and sitting on the back porch with his loving wife.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2021 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg. Father Miller will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following Mass. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Knights of Columbus from 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests planting a tree in memory of Scott.
