Vera F. Jern, age 92 on Monmouth, Illinois passed away at her residence
on Saturday July 10, 2021 at 4:53 pm. Vera was born on March 5, 1929 in
Gladstone, Illinois and is the daughter of Jack and Grace Smith Ditto.
She was raised in Henderson County where she attended local schools and
graduated from G & O High School in 1947. She married Robert E. Jern Sr.
on May 7th 1950 in Oquawka, Illinois, and he is surviving. Vera began
work at Sylvania in Burlington, Iowa for a number of years before her
work at Lehigh Leopold, also of Burlington where she was employed some
10 years. She is currently a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s
Witness in Galesburg, Illinois. Vera is an avid Chicago Cubs fan and
most loved her family and grandchildren, and her pet cats.  Surviving is
husband, Robert Jern, Sr. of Monmouth, Illinois and her daughter, Connie
Jern and Daryl of East Dubuque, Illinois and three sons. Dave Jern and
Pam of Monmouth, Illinois, Mike Jern of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Robert
Jern, Jr and Jennifer of West Burlington, Iowa. There are 18
Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren also surviving Vera. Two
sisters survive, Dolores Sweezer and Dan of Burlington, Iowa, and Betty
Remaly and Arthur in California. Her best friend also is surviving,
Betty Logsdon of Monmouth, Illinois.  She is preceded in her death by
her parents, one sister, and one brother. A graveside funeral service is
planned on Friday July 16, 2021 at 11:00 am in Oquawka Cemetery in
Oquawka, Illinois. Her family plans to receive friends at visitation
from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois
on Thursday July 15, 2021. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery in
Oquawka, Illinois following her graveside service. A memorial fund is
being established for the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in
Galesburg, Illinois. To leave a remembrance or for more information
