Ground work continues for the new 44 unit housing development off East Jackson Street in Monmouth. Back in 2017 a Housing Needs Study was completed, showing the demand for rental and owner occupied housing, explains City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher:
“I think once we get this development up and running and getting the units rented out that it is going to demonstrate that there clearly is a need demand for housing. The Housing Study itself indicated that not only is there a demand for rental housing, but owner occupied housing. We have been working on trying to attract developers to Monmouth to take a look at it. They are interested, but they don’t know the market well enough and I think that this project hopefully will solidify our argument that there is a need for housing in the community.”
The Housing Needs Study identified the demand for 75 housing units for the city of Monmouth.
