Monmouth author Susan Van Kirk has added a fourth title to her popular series of Endurance Mysteries, which feature retired English teacher Grace Kimball and her former student—now Detective TJ Sweeney—as they attempt to solve murders in their small Midwestern town.

In “The Witch’s Child,” which is scheduled to be released October 15th, Sybil Mackenzie returns to town for the funeral of her mother – a self-proclaimed witch who died in prison after having been involved in a sensational murder trial ten years earlier.

“It’s the story of a terrible murder trial that happened in the small town of Endurance, and a woman was sent to prison for a double murder,” Van Kirk said, during a WRAM “Community Hour” interview Wednesday. “The town was pretty upset about it. Lots of emotions, lots of feelings. The husband of one of the victims is still living in town.

“And the daughter of the self-proclaimed witch wants to bring her mother’s body back to town so that she can bury her there.”

Susan Van Kirk — who taught English at Monmouth High School for 34 years and later taught at Monmouth College –will sign copies of “The Witch’s Child” at the Warren County Public Library from 11am to 1 pm on October 23; at Security Savings Bank from 11am to 1pm on October 29; and at the Wordsmith Bookshoppe in Galesburg from 1 to 3 p.m.
