WRAM/WMOI Athletes of the Week for Week Ending Sept. 19, 2021

Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 19, 2021:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior football player, Silas Braun. Silas helped his team get its third win in four games this season with his arm……..and his feet. He threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Silas also ran for 100 yards and three more touchdowns in a 48-13 victory over Sherrard.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Veronica Miller. Veronica helped the Red Storm to a pair of wins over Ridgewood and West Prairie in a variety of ways last week. She led the team in kills in both matches with nine in each. Veronica also hustled her way to a team-leading 3 digs in one of those matches and served a pair of aces in the other.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior boys golfer, Ross Vancil. Ross has been one of the most consistent golfers on the squad this season. He’s led the Heat in scoring in nearly meet so far this season, shooting under 50 each time. Last week, he shot a 49 in the United Red Storm Open and a 48 to lead the way in a meet in Carthage earlier in the week.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Alex Egipciaco. Alex had a big hand in the Streak’s first win of the season against perennial power Geneseo. He ran the ball 25 times for 132 yards. Alex’s first quarter touchdown gave Galesburg a lead it would not relinquish.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Maleaha Nagel. Maleaha has proved herself to be one of the most versatile players in the area. Last week, she led the Lady Tornadoes in assists and digs in a win over Galva. Maleaha once again led in both categories in a match vs. Knoxville and and also had three kills and two blocks against Rushville/Industry.
