Monmouth College Football Enters Bye Week With Momentum, But Also Health Concerns

Some division 3 college football teams did not suit up during the 2020-2021 school year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. One of those teams happened to be the Monmouth College Fighting Scots, which has resulted in minimal varsity experience for many of the Scots’ impact players. One of those players with minimal experience is Junior quarterback Riley Fetterer. Fetterer, a 3-sport standout at Rockridge High School, originally planned on solely playing baseball at Monmouth College, but decided to give football a try in 2020, before the season was canceled. This past week, the Scots picked up a 37-27 victory over Illinois College to give them a record of (2-1) overall and (2-0) in the Midwest Conference. Fetterer, filling in for injured week one starting quarterback Carter Boyer, was instrumental in the victory, completing 13-of-16 passes, for 180 yards. Scots running back Henderson Francois, who was also filling in for a starter, added 174 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground. Going forward, head coach Chad Braun believes his team will overcome the growing pains, and continue to learn on the fly.

Monmouth College now enters the bye week with their focus turned toward recovery, and self-evaluation. Braun wants the team to be ready and refreshed as they prepare to take on Lawrence College in 2 weeks.
