West Central Heat Faces State-Ranked Martinsville in Homecoming Game

The West Central Heat 8-man football team returns home Saturday afternoon to Biggsville for a 1 p.m. Homecoming matchup against state-ranked Martinsville.

The Heat, 4-2 overall this season, defeated Galva 62-20 this past Saturday in a game that head coach Jason Kirby was able to utilize his entire roster, and get some of his younger players some valuable game experience:

“Our varsity defense gave up a score early, but then locked it down,” Kirby said. “I’m not sure they gave up a first down the rest of the half.

“To be honest, our frosh-soph played very well in the second half. I’m really proud of them. I think our younger kids are really showing some improvement and moving in a very positive direction.”

Martinsville, this week’s opponent for the Heat, is 5-1. The Blue Streaks suffered their first loss of the season last week, 36-13 to Ashton-Franklin Center.
