Author Karen Wingate Shares Story of Regaining Her Sight

Share

Former Roseville resident Karen Wingate has lived most of her life with severely limited eyesight due to a multi-faceted genetic disorder … that is, until a surgical procedure five years ago to repair a torn retina helped restore vision in one eye and significantly sharpened her overall visual acuity.

A Bible study leader and women’s ministry coordinator, Wingate has recently published a book about her ability to see more clearly called, “With Fresh Eyes, 60 Insights into the Miraculously Ordinary from a Woman Born Blind.”

“For years I didn’t want to write about my vision,” Wingate said. “I am a writer, and have been writing for 30 years, and while I’ve mentioned my vision casually while writing about myself, I didn’t want to be seen as an overcomer or inspirational.

“I want to share the beauty, the complexity, that I’m seeing for the first time. It’s exciting.

“Because I am a Christian, I want to shout this is something that God did. There’s no other explanation for it.”
