Winter is here and with it brings snow and ice. Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer advises motorists to be careful out on the roadways and clarifies when snow emergencies are declared:
“I take weather forecasts from one of the local weather stations and the National Weather Service. I look at both of those and issue a snow emergency. Sometimes we get the amount of snow they call for and sometimes we don’t. Just be patient with the snow emergencies. They get posted on our Facebook page and I send them to the radio station and other news outlets. Take your time. Give yourself a little extra time to get to where you are going and just be careful; the roads are going to be slick.”
Chief Switzer informs the main purpose of the snow emergencies is to get vehicle off the snow routes in order for the snowplows to clear the roadways.
