City of Monmouth Working on Next Step Towards Public Square Streetscape Project

The City of Monmouth anticipates receiving two to three million in COVID relief money through the American Rescue Plan. City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher says the City has given preliminary thought on utilizing those funds toward the Downtown Square’s streetscape project:

“We are pushing hard on getting two to three million dollars in grant funds for the Public Square streetscape project. We also know the water main that circumvents the square in front of all the buildings, that all has to be replaced and that is about a million-dollar project. We have been giving some preliminary thought to using that COVID money, the American Rescue Plan Act money to replace the water main so that the underground work is done so that we can do the surface work, if and when we are successful. We’ve got a grant application submitted in the amount of $3 million to move forward with the beautification. If we are successful, then the water main is replaced, we can move forward with that.”

Meanwhile, during the first month of operation, Love’s Travel Stop became the highest generating gas station within the City of Monmouth. Along with the other gas stations in town, Administrator Steinbrecher informs that revenue will help build the local road fund to resurface local streets.
