Gene E. Carlson, 82, of Kirkwood, IL, passed away at 12:41 am, Thursday, January 20, 2022 at his home.
Gene was born August 22, 1939 in Monmouth, IL the son of Ejnar and Ruth (Johansson) Carlson. He was raised and educated in Roseville, IL attending Roseville High School.
Gene married Rose Lenz on November 24, 1978 at the Kirkwood Presbyterian Church and she survives.
Gene worked at Keister’s Tires and Farm King both in Monmouth before working at Maytag as a Supervisor for 33 years, retiring in 1997. Following retirement, Gene volunteered for the Kirkwood Senior Center delivery meals on wheels.
He was a member of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing golf, riding motorcycles, woodworking and collecting toy tractors. Gene was a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Carlson of Kirkwood, IL; his children, Lora (David) Brownlee of Kirkwood, IL, Mike (Jennifer) Carlson of St. Joseph, IL, James Carlson of Virginia and Lori Holmes of Galesburg, IL; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Carl Carlson and Robert Carlson.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm, Monday, January 24, 2022 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Cremation will take place following the services. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Kirkwood Senior Center or Western Illinois Animal Rescue (WIAR) and sent to the funeral home.
