Jay Donald Adkisson, 90 of Roseville passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2022 at 1:38 pm. Donald was born on May 7, 1931 in Chicago IL, the son of Jay D. Adkisson and Edna L Adkisson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lester, sisters Mary Graham, and Ruth Anderson.
On August 21, 1953 Donald married Jane Ellen Davis. They had four children; Judith Dawn, Jeremy Dean, Jay Dixson, and Jeffrey Daniel.
January 26, 1985 Donald married Kay Louise Hayes who had three children; Michael R. Humiston, Richard R. Humiston and Shawn K. Johnson.
Donald began his education at the one room Boyd Country School. He completed eight grade with the first six grades with one special teacher Miss Hurka.
He was a graduate of Roseville High School as a “49er” the Class of 1949. He was the lone freshman to ride a pony to school. Donald participated in FFA, he had a cow and pig project each year.
After admittance to the University of Illinois for four years he was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He resided at Illi-Dell the last two and one-half years. After being in the ROTC for 4 years he was commissioned 2nd Lt. U.S. Air Force, on June 21, 1953. This was the same day as his graduation from the University of Illinois. He was called to active duty in the same year. He was stationed at Tyndale AF Base, Panama City Florida.
Upon Honorable Discharge Donald was anxious to return to the farm. He was third generation farmer on the home farm. He was an active farmer for 56 years.
Donald was a member of the Christian Church. He had served as a chairman of the Roseville Christian Church Board in 1960’s when the new building was built. Donald also served as minister for the Ellisville Christian Church for three years.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 11:00 at the Bushnell Christian Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the Church. Burial will be held in the Point Pleasant Cemetery in Roseville. Memorials may be made to the Bushnell Christian Church.
