Monmouth-Roseville, ICS Junior Highs Earn Wins on Wednesday Night

Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High boys basketball teams swept Knoxville Wednesday night in Prairieland Conference play. The 7th grade Titans won 34-24. Titan scorers: Lars Bergren 16, Love Kapesa 8, Sang Lian 4, Yahir Serna 4 & Diego Teyuco 2. The 8th grade Titans topped Knoxville 33-25. Titan scorers: Calgero Sarcomo 19, Landyn Angelo 7, Drew Carlson 6 & Ernesto Andrade 1. Monmouth-Roseville will host Orion on Thursday at 5:30.

Wednesday night the ICS Trojans hosted West Cental to town for Jr. High basketball. In the 7th grade game West Central beat the hosts 34-8. The Trojans had four different players score a basket. Jesus Arteaga, Wyatt Box, Christ Hado and Ty Moore all scored for the Trojans.In the 8th grade game the Trojans stayed undefeated with a 45-12 victory. The Trojans jumped out early as Andrew Way hit for 10 first quarter points and the Trojans led 16-0 after the first quarter. ICS would stretch the lead out to 30-3 at the half as 6 different Trojans would score led by 5 from Clay Casteel. The Trojans continued to spread the wealth around in the second half as 9 players would eventually get in the scoring column and ICS would control the pace throughout the second half. Andrew Way led the Trojans with 14 while Clay Casteel would join him in double figures with 11. Elijah Noel added 6, Jesus Arteaga added 4, Nick Huston 3 and Michael Gooding, Cal Casteel and Christ Hado all had 2 while Ty Moore netted 1. The Trojans will travel to Roseville on Tuesday to take on the Titans.

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High volleyball teams faced Galesburg Wednesday night. The 7th grade Titans fell in 2 sets 12-25 22-25. Lyric Churn led the Titans with 3 ace serves, 3 digs and 2 kills. Jazmyn Copeland, Rylea Hunt and Alayna Riley each had kills. The 8th grade Titans topped Galesburg 25-15 25-21. Perla Esparza had 9 serving points, Brianna Brent 8 serving points and Valeria Serna 6 serving points. The Titans will travel to Kewanee next Wednesday at 5:30.
