Chicago’s vaccine mandate and indoor mask rules could be rolled back in the near future. City Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said yesterday that the policies could be rescinded “quite soon” if COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations keep falling at a dramatic rate.
“As we get back down to lower risk as defined by us, as defined by CDC, we would be looking to lift that vaccination requirement and thinking about the mask requirement for indoor settings as well.”
Over the last week, daily cases in Chicago have dipped by 48-percent, while new hospital admissions have decreased by 41-percent. However, those metrics still remain at levels comparable to the peaks of previous surges.
