Roy Lee Hawkins passed away on February 20, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, with his son and daughter by his side.
He was born February 4, 1954 in Kewanee Illinois to Helen (DeCrane) and Richard “Dick” Hawkins. He is survived by his wife Jill of Galesburg, Illinois, one daughter, Jamie Hawkins of Fairfax, Virginia, one son, Joshua Hawkins of Seattle, Washington, his siblings, Sheryl Wike, Dee Adcock, and Scott Hawkins all of Abingdon, Illinois, several in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces, and great grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law, Brad Wike, Gale Adcock, and Jerry Purchase.
Roy attended Warren and Abingdon High Schools and graduated in 1972. He worked for Gates Rubber Company for 31 years, then drove commercially cross country 7 years. He also assisted on several farms, most recently Roger McClure’s farms, fully retiring a few years ago. Roy enjoyed farming, building things, coaching sports, watching sports, going to car and tractor shows, and taking road trips.
Cremation was accorded. In Roy’s honor, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2022, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel with Pastor Jordan Knight officiating.
