Lawn mower repossessed, former owner runs it off road

On March 21, 2022, at approximately 4:46 p.m. the McDonough County Communications Center received a call stating that some was threatening an individual with a knife. The caller also stated that a vehicle and a lawn mower were in a ditch, both were damaged south of the Dollar General in Colchester, IL.

McDonough County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area and were able to determine that a zero-turn lawn mower was being repossessed from a property in rural Colchester. The re-possessors drove the lawn mower in the direction of Colchester, IL on East 600th Street when the lawn mower was rammed by a vehicle. The vehicle driven by Larry E. Yetter, 73, of Colchester, IL struck the lawn mower causing it to run off the roadway.

Yetter was charged with Aggravated Battery and was lodged in the McDonough County Jail in lieu of bond.

The subject driving the lawn mower did display a knife in self-defense after he was struck by the vehicle. No one was injured with the knife. The subject driving the lawn mower refused medical attention at the scene.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
