United Red Storm Softball FINALLY Gets to Play a Game for the First Time in Two Weeks

Share

The United Red Storm softball team has had some of the worst luck of any team in the area as far as trying to get games played during the long run of bad spring weather. The girls have had nine games lost to the wet, cold conditions so far this season. They found a break in the weather last night, getting a game in against another school that’s had a tough time getting games in, Monmouth-Roseville.

The United softball team was finally able to get on the field for the first time since March 22nd on Monday night. The Red Storm fell to Monmouth-Roseville 11-7 at Monmoth Park. United got down 7-0 after the 2nd inning, but were able to fight their way back in the ballgame on a grand slam home run by Maddie Diaz. Head coach Mark McMahon was proud of the way his team battled back and refused to quit.

Weather pending, United is on the road tonight against Orion. The Red Storm will follow that up with 2 home games, hosting Peoria Central on Thursday and taking part in their Senior Day festivities in a doublehader against Abingdon-Avon on Saturday. United has 5 seniors on the team that have made the transition for Coach Marc McMahon much easier. He’s hoping to see his team bounce back from the loss as they face the challenge of the back-to-back games, following the long layoff.
