United Red Storm Softball Offense Heating Up as Warmer Temperatures Hopefully Arrive

Share

The United Red Storm softball team is (4-5) overall in a season that’s been filled with postponements and cancellations. The Storm got back into more of a rhythm last week, actually getting in four games, winning the final two games against Galva by a combined score of 45-16, actually 45 runs in just nine innings!! The usual suspects for the Red Storm did a bunch of the damage at the plate, but a couple of players also had big days, including Katie Douglas, who went 4-for-8, scoring seven runs and hitting her first home run of the season. Ayden Penn also had a big day, going 6-for-8 with five rbis.

Despite the bad weather that hit the area last week, the United Red Storm softball team was able to squeeze in 4 games. The Red Storm dropped both match ups to state-ranked West Central, falling 12-2 and 15-0. United got behind early in both match ups and were unable to battle their way back. The Red Storm followed that up with 2 impressive victories in a doubleheader against Galva, winning 17-7 and 28-9. Head coach Mark McMahon is proud of the way some of the other players have began to step up and swing the bat well.

United will travel to Annawan tonight to face off against Annawan-Wethersfield, before hosting the Titans on Thursday as part of a home-and-home series. Thursday will also be Senior Day for the Red Storm senior softball players. United will also host a doubleheader against Mercer County on Friday, with the first game beginning at 3:30. United has 5 seniors this year that have all had a major impact on the softball program.
