The Warren County State’s Attorney’s Office has decided on formal charges against two suspects arrested for a shooting early last Saturday morning which resulted in severe bodily injury to one victim.

Cayden J. Bell, 19, and Nathan A. Perez, 18, both face charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

The victim, Brock Noles, is expected to survive his injuries. Noles suffered gunshot wounds to his knee, groin, hip, and face from a large caliber handgun.

Bell faces twenty-one to forty-five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Attempted First Degree Murder, a Class X felony, while Perez faces from thirty-one years to natural life in prison for personally discharging a firearm in the commission of that crime.

Aggravated Battery with a Firearm is also a Class X felony carrying a sentence of up to thirty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm is a Class 1 felony which carries a prison sentence of between four and fifteen years.

Perez is additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm while Ineligible for a FOID card, a Class 3 felony, which carries a penalty of from Three to Seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Each of the charges carries a mandatory prison sentence without the possibility of probation. Any sentence imposed for Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, or Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm requires the defendant to serve no less than 85% of the sentence. Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm do not require the defendant to serve more than half of any sentence imposed.

Both defendants are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday April 5 at 10:00 am. It is expected that bond will be set for Bell at that time. Bond for Perez was set at $750,000 ($75,000 cash) on Saturday morning.

The investigation remains ongoing and could result in additional charges. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Warren County Crimestoppers with information.

Charges are not evidence; they are only accusations. The accused are presumed innocent of all charges until proven guilty in a court of law.
