On Saturday April 30th, 2022 at 3:23 pm Charles Leroy Vervinck joined the two loves of his life, his beautiful bride Mary Lou, and his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, in eternity. Charles was surrounded by many loved ones when he peacefully went to his eternal home. Charles was born on June 5, 1940 in Monmouth, and is the son of Richard A. and Lillian Nyberg Vervinck where he was reared and educated in local schools and he lived his entire life. On February 10, 1961 Charles married Mary Lou Hayes and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2021 before Mary Lou passed away on April 16, 2021. Charles worked at several car dealerships in his younger years including Barrows and Addleman, Russ Motors, Ray Green, O’brien and Burke, Bruce Foote, and Tatman 1 Motors. In his later years, he worked for the Warren County Highway Department for over 30 years before retiring. Charles loved to work on electronics, making music CDs for family friends to share the gospel of Christ with the people he met. He also loved to help others in anyway he could. He was active for many years in the Foursquare Gospel Church of Monmouth, and more recently was active with the Gideons International Society. He is survived by two daughters, Jalene Durbin and Jeff and Deanne Watson and Dan also of Monmouth, Illinois, both of Monmouth, Illinois. There are seven grandchildren surviving, Justin Durbin and Melissa of Lonsdale, Minnesota; Jacquelyn Laws and Adam of Monmouth, Illinois; Jared Durbin of Kirkwood, Illinois; Janelle Durbin of Manchester, England; Brittany Watson of Green Castle, Indiana; Amy Watson of Jacksonville, Illinois; and Jordan Durbin of Monmouth, Illinois. Also surviving are their eight great grandchildren and numerous brothers and sisters.
A funeral service with cremation is planned on Saturday May 7, 2022 at 10:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. His family plans visitation and will receive their friends at Turnbulls from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday evening May 6, 2022. Cremation will then be accorded and interment is planned at a later date. At his request, memorial funds are being established for ” The Winner’s Circle ” Christian Radio Ministry, the New Hope Fellowship of Green Castle, Indiana, or Calvary Assembly of God in Galesburg, Illinois.
