In early 2021, Eagle View Community Health System partnered with the Burlington Community School District to provide onsite medical and behavioral health services within the district. Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator Emily Higgins reports that not only do they provide care for the students and staff, but also the households:
“We would love to branch out. We are definitely still seeing how this works because it is really the first in the area. It is definitely a new concept, but it really is beneficial, and it gives us a chance to partner with the school that has just been nothing but accommodating to us. It gives us a chance to partner with them to not only provide services, but also provide maybe some health education to the students. One thing to note with this, not only do we see the students and employees, but we will see any of their household members as well. If the student lives with mom, dad, aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa, and then has siblings or cousins, we will see anyone that lives in that household as well.”
Services provided through the school-based health center include acute illnesses, injury care, immunizations, chronic care management, behavioral health referrals, substance use counseling, and more.
