Catherine Elizabeth Shragal, 94, passed away peacefully at 5:50 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at her daughter’s home with her family by her side.
Catherine was born February 3, 1928, in Farmington, Illinois the daughter of John Ivan and Sylvia Jane (Liker) Bruketta. She married the love of her life, Robert Shragal on August 14, 1948, in Canton, Illinois. They shared 70 years together before his passing on June 22, 2018.
Catherine is survived by her family, Rita (Fred) Keeperman of Moraga, California, their children, Matthew, Jacob, Jonathan Keeperman and Lindsey Hughes; Margaret (Steve) Tolley of Galesburg, their children, Ellen Davis, Rachel Ryan, Daniel Tolley and Janice Walters; Mike (Sarah Carey) Shragal of Danville, California, their children, Grace and Benjamin Shragal; David (Julie King) Shragal of Galesburg, their children, Adrianna and Danielle Shragal and Phyllis (Larry Mosnick) Shragal-Mosnick of Crystal Lake, Illinois, their children, Emily, Alexander Mosnick and Christina Mosnick; twenty great grandchildren with one on the way. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her six brothers, Nick, George, Stephen, John, Jr., Pete, and Frank Bruketta and her five sisters, Anna, Helen and Mary Bruketta, Rose Marinich, and Sylvia DeLost.
Catherine graduated from Farmington High School in 1946 and married Robert shortly thereafter. She immediately took on the role as a farmer’s wife, mother, and homemaker. She was extremely involved with her children’s school activities, and the PTA. Catherine was an amazing cook, specializing in pies, breads, and cream puffs. She was an exceptional seamstress, able to alter anything including her granddaughters’ prom dresses. Catherine was a 4-H club leader and volunteered with the Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women’s Shelter. Catherine was a devote member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and served on the Immaculata Guild.
Rosary will begin at 5:00 pm Friday, September 23, 2022, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will follow the Rosary until 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
