The Knox County Health Department in conjunction with the City of Galesburg announces that the Prescription Drug Take Back program housed at the Knox County Health Department and Knox Community Health Center will no longer be available to residents effective October 18, 2022.
The safe disposal for unused or expired household medications in the county are at the following locations:
- Both Hy-Vee locations
- OSF St. Mary Medical Center (in front of ER)
- Walgreens on Fremont St.
- Wal-Mart
Unused or expired medicine should never be flushed or poured down the drain. Removing potentially dangerous pharmaceutical substances from our counties medicine cabinets helps prevent them from going into our water supply and/or in the hands of those who they do not belong too.
The Knox County Health Department will continue to offer safe disposal of sharps to the community. Sharps should be placed in an approved sharps container available at no cost at the Health Department. “Proper disposal of used sharps is vital to the health of the community, states Erin Olson, Public Information Officer. Used sharps that are improperly disposed of can injure individuals and spread infections that cause serious health conditions such as: Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV.”
