Rose A. Sandstrom,75, of Roseville, IL passed away at 5:10 am, Monday, October 24, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.

Rose was born January 17, 1947 in Cambridge, IL the daughter of Arthur & Pearl (Wexell) Carlberg.  She was raised and educated in Cambridge, graduating from Cambridge High School in 1965.  She later graduated from Western Illinois University in 1969 with a degree in Physical Education.

Rose married David C. Sandstrom on August 1, 1971 at the Methodist Church in Galva, IL and he survives.

Rose was a grade school physical education teacher at Warren School District beginning in the fall of 1969. She was the first head coach of the girls’ basketball program at Warren High School, known as the Warriorettes.  Rose left the Warren School District in the fall in 1975 to start her family.  She returned to teaching P.E in 1987 at Monmouth Elementary Schools and later assisted with the Enrichment Program before retiring from teaching in the public school system in 2010. During her retirement years she was a supervisor of student teachers at Monmouth College as well as teaching methods classes at the college.

She was member of the First Lutheran Church of Monmouth where she served on the church council as Secretary and later President for 4 years as well as assisting in many other roles where needed.  She was a leader of the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club in Roseville, local quilting group at her church, and the Retired Teachers Association of Warren County where she was currently serving as President. She was member of the Roseville School Board for 12 years where she served as Secretary.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, quilting, swimming classes at the YMCA and working with her flowers, especially her irises.   She also enjoyed helping her youngest son with his business.  Rose loved to watch her sons and later her granddaughter play in various sporting activities.

Survivors include her husband, David C. Sandstrom of Roseville; 2 sons, Mark D. (Ashlee) Sandstrom of Columbia, IL and Michael A. (Christine) Sandstrom of Davenport, IA; her granddaughter, Claire Sandstrom of Columbia, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents.Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the First Lutheran Church of Monmouth.  Interment will take place at Monmouth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm, Friday, October 28, 2022 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Memorials may be given to the First Lutheran Church of Monmouth, Warren County 4-H or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and sent to the funeral home.
