Here’s our WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 2nd, 2022:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Mattie Gillen. Mattie earned all-tournament status for her performance at the highly competetive Orion Charger Classic. She posted all-around numbers of 12 kills, 14 service points, including 3 aces, 4 blocks and 16 digs. She leads the team in digs on the season.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior football player, Jake McElwee. Jake exploded for three touchdowns in a 62-6 win over Walther Christian Academy. He rushed for 111 yards on 15 carries, with nearly all of that damage being done in the first half. Jake also helped out on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage as well, totaling four tackles.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior girls golfer, Allie Strack. Allie placed 13th at the Lincoln Trail Conference Railsplitter championship meet this season, just missing out on earning all-conference status. She then had a fantastic finish of 22nd at the class 1A regional meet, carding a 97. That score qualified her for her first sectional tournament.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior volleyball player, Kiarra Kilgore. Kiarra had a big hand in the Streaks getting two Western Big Six Conference wins over Rock Island and United Township last week. She filled up the stat with 30 total assists and 14 total kills in the two matches. Kiarra also hustled her way to 8 digs in the victory over UT.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior girls golfer, Sydney Emerick. Sydney was the low scorer at the Lincoln Trail Conference Railsplitter Championship meet with a 44th place score of 158. She followed that up with a 74th place score of 128 at her first regional meet at Wee-Ma-Tuck Golf Course. That score tied her with teammate and former Athlete of the Week Winner, Carly Powell for low score for A-Town.
