IDNR Offers Hunters Safety Tips Ahead of Shotgun Season

Share

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is issuing some reminders about hunting safety. The most frequent cause for hunting accidents is unsecure tree stands says State Conservation Police Officer Zach Williams. So, what does a safe tree stand look like?

“I would say nice, fresh straps, no moss, no dirt, mold, whatever in the straps. The straps are the biggest thing. That is what holds the whole tree stand to the tree. Just make sure all of that is up to date, because ultimately it is your life on the line.”

Hunters are also reminded to wear the required blaze orange or pink while out in the woods, to check that their firearm is working properly, and to be sure of their target before pulling the trigger.
