Victoria Ann Fitzgibbon, 85, died peacefully on November 22, 2022, at her home in Springfield, Illinois.

She is survived by her four children – Matthew (Tom Bridgman) of Hanna City, Illinois; Michael (Noel Laurent) of Rochester, Illinois; Rebecca (Ron) Kiel of Clayton, North Carolina; and Andrew (Jen Snow) of Louisville, Kentucky. Also surviving are seven grandchildren – David, Kaylie, Abi, Keagan, Lydia, Sydney, and Ethan; as well as several generations of nieces and nephews.

Vicki (Schleich) was born July 14, 1937, in Avon, Illinois. She married Edwin Fitzgibbon in 1960. She graduated from Avon High School, attended Monmouth College and Emerson College (Boston), and received her teaching certificate from Western Illinois University. She taught elementary education before taking an extended leave to raise her own family. During this time, she earned additional teaching certificates and returned to the field of education equipped with the skills and passion to spend the remainder of her career teaching children with severe and profound disabilities.

Vicki is preceded in death by her groom of 60 years, Edwin; her parents, Victor and Florence Schleich; one brother, Stephen; and two sisters, Harriett and Ilene.

The family will welcome friends on Monday, November 28, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at West Side Christian Church in Springfield, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at the Federated Church in Avon on Tuesday, November 29 at 11:00 a.m. with a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Avon Cemetery, Avon, Illinois.
