Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending December 11, 2022:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior boys wrestler, Gabe Ortiz-Mora. Gabe brought home a 5th place medal from the 27 team PORTA Invitational. He went (4-1) on the day, getting all four wins by way of pinfall. Earlier in the week, Gabe picked up two more pins in a triangular against Three Rivers Conference opponents, Sherrard and Morrison.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior boys wrestler, Jake McElwee. Jake placed 3rd out of 21 total wrestlers at the highly competetive PORTA Invitational Tournament. He went (3-1) for the day, getting two pins and a major decision in the 3rd place match. Jake’s only loss came a state-ranked wrestler.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Harlee Hainds. Harlee really came on strong on the offensive end of the floor. In five games last week, she averaged 11 points a game. Harlee scored 22 against West Prairie, with two 3-pointers and shooting 6-8 from the free throw line.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior girls basketball player, Kiarra Kilgore. In her team’s two games last week, Kiarra posted a double-double in each. In a close loss to Quincy, she scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Kiarra was even better in a win over rival Rock Island, pouring in 22 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and handing out six assists.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Emma Gunther. Emma was a big part of a Lincoln Trail Conference victory over Ridgewood. She broke out for a career-high 17 points. Not only was she fantastic on the offensive end, Emma also garnered six steals on the defensive end of the floor.
