Donna May Hamann, 88, of Galesburg, died peacefully with family at 12:55 p.m. Friday January 27, 2023, at Village Green Assisted Living, Fayetteville, NC.  She was born May 4, 1934, in Fremont, Wisconsin, the daughter of Donald and Mayme (Diely) Walrath.  She married, her loving husband, Henry (Hank) A. Hamann on May 28, 1955, in Laona, Wisconsin.

She is survived by sons, Steve Hamann of Chicago, Darrell (and Patti) Hamann of North Andover, Massachusetts, and Peter (and Carla) Hamann of Fayetteville, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Diane Hamann of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Jeffery, Katie, Joshua, Lorayna, Samantha, Alexandra, and Leah; and six great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Henry Hamann, and her son David Hamann.

Donna was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters including her identical twin (Mary).  She was born and raised on a rural farm in Fremont, Wisconsin.  Donna graduated from New London High School in New London, Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.  Donna was a grade school teacher for 18 years having worked in Morocco (Africa), Wisconsin, Illinois, and Missouri, retiring in 1994.  In her retirement Donna spent her time with her beloved husband Hank visiting family and traveling around the US and World from Galesburg.  Donna was a longtime volunteer at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.  She loved to do crafts and knit making several hundred stocking caps for cancer patients.  Donna loved spending time with their 4 children and grandchildren.  Donna was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg, Illinois.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg.  Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Carrie Carnes officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral with burial in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin.  Memorials contributions in Donna’s name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
