Morris Clark Stewart, Sr., 82, of Galesburg, Illinois died peacefully at home on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 2:30 p.m.

Morris was born August 23, 1940 at home in Laura, Illinois the son of James Lee and Mildred Vivian (Robbins) Stewart.  Morris married Helen Blanche Halsey on November 9, 1957 in Burlington, Iowa.  She preceded him in death on July 22, 2019.  Morris is survived by two sons, Morris “Bud” Stewart, Jr. of Galesburg and Jeffrey Stewart of East Galesburg, Illinois; two daughters, Pamela (Kim) Kelly of Oak Run, Illinois and Annette (David) Taylor of East Galesburg, Illinois; and two brothers, Charles “Duane” Stewart of Galesburg and Don (Betty) Richards of Zanesville, Ohio.  Morris is also survived by his seven beloved grandchildren, Jeremiah (Heather) Kelly, Hilary (Eddie) Peters, Kirsten (Josh) Autery, Jamie (Cory) Adolphson, Josh (Sara) Taylor, Elizabeth Farmer, and Kayla Morrissey; and 14 great grandchildren. Along with his wife, Morris was preceded in death by his father, James; his mother Vivian and step father, Al Richards; and three brothers, Lewis, Leon, and an infant Jimmy.

Morris worked at John Deere for over 30 years.  Following retirement, Morris worked for 10 years for the City of Galesburg at Bunker Links Golf Course.  Morris had a strong Christian faith and was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church in Galesburg.  He was a member of Elks Lodge #880, Galesburg.  Morris enjoyed many rounds of golf including scoring a hole in one on the 8th hole at Oak Run Golf Course.  He also enjoyed fishing, tending to both his vegetable and flower gardens, and spent over 18 years training and racing field trial dogs.  His proudest accomplishment was being a loving Papa and GG to his great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg with funeral services following at 11 a.m.  Pastor Greg Bartlett and Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate.  Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
