According to the CDC over 600,000 Americans die from heart disease. American Heart Month, which is observed each February, raises awareness on the importance of a healthy heart and encourages a healthy lifestyle. While there are common contributing factors that can lead to heart disease; high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, and excessive alcohol use, OSF HealthCare St. Mary and Holy Family Vice President and Chief Medical Director Dr. Glenn Milos reports that men and women can experience different symptoms when it comes to signs of a heart attack:

It is never too late to take steps to prevent a heart attack. Follow a healthy lifestyle, manage other health conditions, take medications as directed, and seek medical attention when needed.
