Susan “Susie” Lucille (Onion) Howard, 83 of Lake Bracken, Galesburg, passed away Friday February 17, 2023 at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria IL surrounded by friends and family.

She was born November 10, 1939 in Abingdon, IL the daughter of Pearl Lucille Onion and Russell Gale Onion. She married the love of her life William “Bill” Howard on June 20, 1958 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2022. Susie is survived by her children Lori (Nelson) Barnes of Bartlett, IL and one son Mike (Terri) Howard of Galesburg, IL; five grandchildren Jaque (Matt) Gohlinghorst, Michael Barnes, Meghan Barnes, Nicolas Barnes, and Alexis Barnes; and two-great grandsons, Clay and Jackson Gohlinghorst. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Betty Miller and one brother, Gene Onion. She has two surviving brothers, George Onion and Russell Onion, Jr.

She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1957. She was a bookkeeper at JTPA in Pekin. She had lived in the Abingdon, Brimfield and Lake Bracken areas most of her life. She was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church. Susie enjoyed golfing and making memories with family and friends at Lake Bracken. She was a member of Lake Bracken Ladies League.

Cremation will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Lake Bracken County Club, Galesburg IL from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, IL. Memorials may be made to the Lake Bracken Ladies League or Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center in care of Michael Howard, 529 Hillbrook Est, Galesburg, IL 61401.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
