As the weather is warming up, outdoor project lists begin to form. Monmouth Police Department Investigator Josh Kramer reminds homeowners to be aware of home improvement scams as well as door to door sales:

“It varies anywhere from driveway sealing, asphalt on the driveway, to your roof or siding. These people show up at your door and tell you they have a great deal and these improvements need to be done and that they can get you a really good price today. They will want money up front. Money will get provided and you never see them again or they will start, make it look like they are doing something on the project and say they will be back tomorrow to finish up and they never show back up. The door to door sales, unfortunately the vacuum sales, will come to the door with a great vacuum and say they would like to demonstrate it for you, they are very convincing. Once they get in the house, they will do their demonstration. While they are doing their demonstration, the other person is ransacking the back of the house.”

Solicitors in the City of Monmouth are required to obtain a permit from City Hall. If someone shows up at your door and the situation seems questionable, contact local law enforcement immediately.
