Local Resources Available for Entrepreneurs Looking to Launch Their Own Business

A new business will be opening in downtown Galesburg. The full-service salon K & K Beauty Bar will be located at 341 East Main Street. As start up businesses are becoming more prominent, Knox County Area Partnership President Ken Springer says there is assistance locally:

“The easiest way to get started is to reach out to us. Our line is 309-343-1194. We will sit down with a start up and have an initial assessment meeting where we just kind of talk about what the business’s idea is and then anything that the business has accomplished so far; if they have written a plan or if they have figured out marketing or any of these different pieces that come together. From there, we will put together a little action item list for the business. We can connect them to different resources that are available and I want to give a shoutout to our friends at the Small Business Development Center of Western Illinois University, it has been a great partnership for us over the years. The SBDC, they are a free resource that helps people write business plans and we have referred a number of folks to them for help with business plans over the years. We take each client as their own unique set of action items and essentially work step by step with that business to get all those boxes checked on the list.”

Springer reports that the last 14 start up businesses KCAP assisted all worked with the Small Business Development Center.
