Ofelia Garcia Martinez, 73, of Galesburg, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at home with her husband by her side. Ofelia was born in Moroleon, Mexico on November 14, 1949, the oldest daughter of Esteban and Josefina (Martinez) Garcia. She was one of nine children. Ofelia immigrated to the United States in 1967, settling in Chicago, IL where she met her husband, Raymundo S. Martinez. They were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Chicago, on November 4, 1969.  Ofelia worked several jobs to help support her family, the last being a cook at Cottonwood Healthcare Center, but her true passion was taking care of her family. She was especially proud of raising her four sons. 

Ofelia is survived by her husband, Raymundo S. Martinez, four sons – Ray, Raul (Rebecca), Ricky, and Rudy (Angela), 5 sisters – Soledad, Martha, Yolanda, Margarita, and Maria, 2 brothers – Mario and Salvador, 18 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, granddaughter Marie and sister Christina.

Visitation for Ofelia will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Galesburg, IL with the rosary being prayed at 11:30. Her funeral mass will follow at 12 p.m. Father Lee Brokaw will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family.
