Demolition Of Collapsed Davenport Building Delayed

Demolition of the partially collapsed apartment building in downtown Davenport is being delayed. City officials say the timing of the demolition of the property is still be evaluated. The new details were released after a group of protesters gathered near the site to prevent the building from being torn down yesterday.

rews are continuing to search the rubble of the apartment building that collapsed in downtown Davenport. Mayor Mike Matson revealed yesterday that five people are unaccounted for, including two likely in the wreckage of the building that collapsed this past weekend. Fire crews searched the debris yesterday and rescued several animals, which were delivered to the Scott County Humane Society.

Demolition is set to begin on the partially collapsed apartment building in downtown Davenport. City officials announced the building would be torn down yesterday after concluding a search for people trapped in the rubble. There are no reports of any deaths, but one victim was pulled alive from the debris. Residents who have been displaced may seek assistance from the Red Cross or Salvation Army.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is issuing a disaster proclamation for Scott County in response to the partial collapse of an apartment building in Davenport over the weekend. The governor’s proclamation activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Management Program for residents impacted by the collapse. The incident happened Sunday in the three-hundred block of Main Street. The cause of the collapse remains unknown.
