Kent Hamilton, age 78, passed away at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Born on December 6, 1943 to William “Bill” and Virginia Kiger Hamilton. Kent graduated from Union High School in 1961. He attended Southeastern Community College, where he played on the basketball team.

Kent was a legend in his own time. He had a multitude of friends. Generous to a fault, he was always willing to lend a hand, financially or otherwise. He was a pillar in the community. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed golfing.

Kent was owner of Hamilton’s Supermarket in Oquawka, having taken over in 1970 after the death of his father. He later worked in the meat department at Hy-Vee in Burlington.

He is survived by his children, Todd (Jacque) Hamilton and Amy (Dustin Shepard) Hamilton; grandchildren, Justin (Tamra) Chandler, Dalton (Brooke) Chandler, Tyler, Kaylee, and Drake Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Charley Jayne, Carver, Presley and a little girl on the way; sisters, Linda Hawbaker and Gail Hamilton; special friend, Terri Rauhaus and her son Zack; sister-in-law Tracy Hamilton and former wife , Jayne Pearson; a niece, Kate Hawbaker (Justin Mansak); nephew, Christopher (Rosy) Hawbaker and many special cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jim Hamilton and brother-in-law, James Hawbaker.

As were Kent’s wishes, cremation is being accorded. A Memorial Service for is planned for 12:00 Noon on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Visitation is planned from 10:00-12:00 Noon prior to the service at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Oquawka Toy Drive and Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.
